  • Czech Republic: tourism and history at its best

Bordered by Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland, the Czech Republic (formerly Bohemia and once part of Czechoslovakia) beckons tourists, with its rich history, as well as its architectural, artistic and cultural heritage, built over centuries.

Discover Czech Republic

  • Prague, a medieval yet modern city

Prague, the country’s capital, offers a number of noteworthy attractions. Of particular interest to tourists is the Astronomical Clock, an engineering wonder dating back to 1490, as well as the Alphonse Mucha Museum of art nouveau. Art deco lovers can stroll through town and admire the architecture that faces the city’s streets, then walk a bit farther to Charles Bridge for a splendid view of the city. Literary travellers can visit the homes of Czech artists, like the famous writer Franz Kafka.

  • Beyond Prague

The city of spas, Karlovy Vary, is host to one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world. Pilsen is renowned for its excellent Pilsner Urquell beer, while Kutná Hora is home to the Gothic Cathedral of St. Barbara, an architectural masterpiece. Don’t miss the ossuary, featuring decorations made from thousands of human bones. Lastly, the largest museum of the Roma people, who number over 300,000 in the Czech Republic, can be found in Brno.

  • Cafés, bars and restaurants

Cafés are legion all over the Czech Republic, and bars, especially in Prague, perpetually call tourists and locals to come in and enjoy a pivo (beer). Restaurants often serve traditional fare, which is prepared with local grains, beans and potatoes, as well as pork, chicken and other meats. Travellers rave about česká bramborová, a delicious Czech soup made with potato.
