Discover Iceland

  • The legendary Golden Circle route

This iconic route takes you to three of Iceland's must-see attractions and is very easy to reach from Reykjavík, the country's capital. Thingvellir National Park is the first stop. Here, travellers can learn about the origins of Iceland's formation and the park's unique geology and even go diving in the crystal-clear waters of the Silfra fissure. Next, discover the Geysir geothermal area, located in the Haukadalur Valley, 60 km from Thingvellir, to see impressive columns of steam and geysers. The last stop is Gullfoss waterfall, which means “Golden Falls” in Icelandic. Prepare to be captivated by the beauty and power of the water against a picture-postcard backdrop.

  • Landscapes on the Big Screen

Iceland's panoramas have made it famous beyond its borders and are attracting many filmmakers and producers. Interest in this destination has grown considerably in recent years, partly thanks to the appearance of its most beautiful sites in several American productions. One example is the Vatnajökull glacier, which appears in several famous films and series such as Game of Thrones, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Interstellar. The Snæfellsjökull volcano appears in the film based on Jules Verne's 1864 novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The Lake Mývatn region, with Grjótagjá, a small volcanic cave in northern Iceland, is undoubtedly the most famous setting in Game of Thrones.

  • From Reykjavík to picturesque villages

Iceland's capital attracts travellers from all over the world every year with its relaxed atmosphere, colourful and eclectic architecture, and proximity to nature. This fascinating city is also the gateway to the country's most beautiful panoramas and authentic villages. Set off to explore whales in Húsavík, a charming small town and Iceland's oldest Viking settlement. Lovers of colourful houses will find what they are looking for in Seydisfjördur, a must-see village surrounded by mountains and waterfalls, nestled in the famous fjord of the same name. Close to the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier and black sand beaches, travellers will want to stop in the small village of Vik and its magnificent surrounding landscapes.

  • Iceland off the beaten track

While the country is full of must-see sites, there are still many unusual and much more intimate places to discover. Head north to the Tröllaskagi Peninsula to discover the villages of Siglufjördu and Hofsós. Discover Fjadrárgljúfur, one of Iceland's most beautiful canyons, and Seljalandsfoss waterfall on the south coast, or the Vesturdalur Valley in the Lake Mývatn region. Iceland also offers culinary specialties such as fish or lamb soup, rye bread baked in hot earth, and many others. Remote canyons and waterfalls, wild cliffs and hidden trails: Iceland reveals a multitude of spectacular landscapes far from the crowds, allowing you to discover the country in complete serenity.
