Air Transat carry on and checked baggage allowance

Air Transat’s baggage allowance

Carry-on 
  • 1 bag per person (no fee)
  • Dimension: 23 x 40 x 51 cm (9 x 16 x 20 in) (including wheels and handles)
Each passenger is entitled to one piece of hand luggage and a personal item which are both subject to size restrictions. The hand luggage must be light enough for the passenger to store in the upper luggage compartment without assistance. The personal item should be placed under the seat in front of the passenger.
 
Personal items 
Handbag or briefcase, camera bag, laptop computer bag, bag of items from the duty-free shop, wedding dress, sports bag or equipment (e.g. squash, badminton racquet).  
  • 1 per person (no fee)
  • Dimension: 43 x 25 x 10 cm (17.7 x 10 x 4 in)

Smoking materials:
  • 1 lighter per passenger, packed in the allowable 1 plastic bag per passenger (due to liquid content). No lighters in checked baggage.
  • 1 book of matches per passenger, carried only on your person.
  • Electronic cigarettes: stowed unused in carry-on baggage at all times. Carriage in checked baggage is prohibited.
  • Gun lighters, lighters shaped like grenades, lighter with unabsorbed liquid fuel, torch lighters are not permitted in carry-on and checked baggage.
  • Specific country restrictions may also apply.

You may carry Epi-Pens or hypodermic needles only for personal medical use. The needle guard must be in place and the needle must be accompanied by the medication in its original labeled container or with a signed doctor's certificate.

A checked bag can be up to 158 cm in linear dimensions (length + width + height). If your bag exceeds this size (up to a maximum of 292 cm), an additional fee of CA $100 (US $100 / €80 / £65) will apply.
 

Overweight baggage

A checked bag can weigh up to:

  • Economy Class: 23 kg (all destinations)
  • Club Class: 25 kg for the South, USA and within Canada; 32 kg for Europe (two checked bags allowed)

If your bag exceeds the allowed weight (up to a maximum of 32 kg), an additional fee of CA $100 (US $100 / €80 / £65) will apply.

If a piece of baggage is both oversized and overweight, both fees will apply. Please note that you cannot prepay for oversized or overweight bags; you must pay for these at the airport.

Infants travelling on an adult's lap do not have a baggage allowance; however, 1 stroller and 1 car or booster seat per child/infant are accepted free of charge. No substitutions permitted.

Additional items (such as a playpen, additional car or booster seats, etc.) exceeding your free checked baggage allowance (weight, size and/or number of pieces permitted) will be subject to excess baggage charges.

Parent/guardian may carry diaper bag in addition to regular carry-on, containing supplies needed for duration of flight.

A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine will be accepted as a carry-on if it meets our standard carry-on dimensions. Due to the excess weight of these machines, we ask that you limit your other carry-on items to the minimum that is required for your personal needs during flight. The urn must be able to pass the x-ray at the security checkpoint (in carry-on or checked baggage). If it can be x-rayed and security can see the contents, it will be allowed in the cabin. If the contents cannot be viewed by x-ray, the urn will be refused for transport and must be shipped via alternate means such as air cargo or mail.

Urns made of plastic, cardboard or cloth are recommended.

Passengers must present the cremation and the death certificates at check-in as well as security checkpoints.

What are our liability limitations?

As Air Transat is not a signatory of the IATA Interline Agreement, we are unable to accept baggage transferred from another airline, nor can we transfer it to another airline. To ensure your baggage travels with you, please present all of your checked baggage to us at your airport of departure when you check in. Air Transat cannot be responsible for baggage that is not checked in at that time. We thank you for your understanding.

Fragile or perishable articles, including medication or medical devices, money, jewellery, silverware, electronics, laptop computers, personal audio/video devices, negotiable documents, securities, samples of business documents or other valuables (other than articles of clothing) shall not be accepted as checked baggage.
