Unaccompanied minors

If your child is travelling without a parent/guardian (or with a parent/guardian but in a different compartment/cabin on board) please read this section to ensure that they meet the requirements for travelling alone and are fully prepared for their trip.

Minimum 8 days to 7 years inclusively 8 - 11 years inclusively 12 - 17 years inclusively
Must be accompanied, in the same cabin, by another passenger who is 16 years of age or older. 

May travel alone, or with an adult travelling in a different cabin, upon the purchase of our Unaccompanied Minor VIP Service. Children under the age of 12 will be charged an adult fare if traveling without a parent / legal guardian in addition to paying the VIP service fee.* This service is not available on connecting or codeshare flights, nor on flight to or from Colombia.

May travel alone or with an adult travelling in a different class. We will be pleased to offer assistance to youth passengers travelling alone, however they must be able to travel independently and without Air Transat guardianship.

For peace of mind, you may choose to register your youth traveller in our Unaccompanied Minor VIP Service. In this case, the young traveler will have to pay an adult rate in addition to paying the fee for the VIP service for unaccompanied minors. This service is not available on connecting or codeshare flights, nor on flight to or from Colombia.

All paperwork, identification requirements, services, fees and handling will apply.

Our special VIP Service ensures these young travellers receive a personalized service, from check-in all the way to arrival in their destination, including:

  • An escort through the airport processes
  • Standard seat assignment
  • Priority boarding
  • Priority baggage handling
  • Free snacks from our Bistro selection

Please note this service is mandatory. The cost is CA $100 per unaccompanied minor, per direction, payable in advance via our call centre. 

At airports outside of Canada, actual amounts may vary and will be charged in the currency used in the departure airport.

The child must be checked in at least 3 hours before the flight's scheduled departure time.

The parent or guardian accompanying the child to the airport must provide full contact details for the person who will meet the child at destination (name, full address, area code and telephone number).

The parent or guardian accompanying the child to the airport must remain at the airport until the aircraft takes off, as confirmed by the Air Transat agent.

The child will receive a pouch to be worn around the neck throughout the trip, identifying him or her as an unaccompanied minor.

For flights to or from the South (except Peru), the United States and within Canada, it is possible to pre-order a meal from the Bistro menu for the child up to 72 hours before the flight.

The person picking up the child on arrival will need to present a photo ID card to verify that his or her contact information matches the information on the form filled out on departure.
