 Travelling with children

ü

As part of Traveller Care, portions of the services offered may be different than advertised, including being reduced or unavailable to limit handling and contact.

Getting ready to head out on a family vacation? Travelling with children? It is important to remember that it is the age of your child which determines which booking, seating and ticketing rules apply to you. Here are a few things to consider.

Exclusive privileges

  • Check-in/Pre-boarding

Where facilities permit (at Canadian gateways), designated check-in counters are available for families travelling with young children and unaccompanied minors. That means less time waiting in line!

With the exception of flights to the U.S., we are happy to offer pre-boarding for families travelling with young children.

  • Seat Selection*

Standard seats are assigned for free to children aged between 2 and 13 inclusively and their parents/guardians featured on the same family booking.

Family bookings of 5 passengers or less: seats will be grouped together and assigned by the system 4 days after a booking has been made.
  • On-board perks

    A kit containing infant-care items

For children, surprises will be given out on all our flights:
Headphones, Beach ball (aboard flights to the South), Activities booklet (aboard flights to Europe), Deck of cards (aboard flights from Europe and from the South).

Wide array of entertainment options for everyone, from classic movies to new releases to hit TV series.
* Family bookings of 6 passengers or more, or families with separate bookings: families must call the Information and Seat Selection Centre at 1-877-TRANSAT no later than 24 hours before departure. Only standard seats will be assigned, and these will be subject to availability. If families prefer other types of seats, they can opt for a paid seat selection. No discount will be granted on seat selection. Seat selection is free for Kids Club members (available to residents of Canada, France and the United Kingdom).
  • Travel tips

    The right seat
A window seat is ideal for children. Placing a pillow or blanket just under the window makes a comfortable place for your child to sleep. Ask your flight attendant about our Comfort Kit, available for only CA$ 9.99.

    Documents required
Make sure you have all documents required by the country of destination, including parental consent letters where applicable. Visit Government of Canada, our Passport and travel documents section, or other local authorities for more information.

    Mommy, my ears hurt!
To prevent earaches, give your child candy to suck on, or a bottle of water. If their ears hurt, try this trick: tell them to yawn. The benefits of pinching their nose are doubtful and we do not recommend it.
