Entry requirements for Canada have changed. Find out if they apply to you.

In addition to your valid passport, you will also need:

  • a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)*, or;
  • a valid visa, or;
  • a valid Permanent Resident Card (PRC)

*Holders of a valid Canadian passport, Canadian Permanent Resident Card (PRC) or Canadian visa, as well as U.S. citizens, are ineligible for an eTA and must present their original documents for travel.

Travelling with children

This section covers everything you need to know about travelling with children on Air Transat!

  • Minimum 7 days old, maximum 2 years old less a day
  • May travel on the lap of a passenger, age 16 years or older
  • Maximum of one infant per passenger, age 16 years or older
  • If an infant turns 2 during the trip, a seat must be purchased for the return flight segment
  • 2 – 11 years inclusively 
Family booking
  • A family booking includes at least one child aged 12 and under and their parents/guardians.

Minimum 7 days to under 8 years of age 8 - 11 years inclusively 12 - 17 years inclusively
Must be accompanied, in the same cabin, by another passenger who is 16 years of age or older. 

May travel alone, or with an adult travelling in a different cabin, upon the purchase of our Unaccompanied Minor VIP Service. This service is not available on connecting or codeshare flights.

May travel alone or with an adult travelling in a different cabin. We will be pleased to offer assistance to youth passengers travelling alone, however they must be able to travel independently and without Air Transat guardianship.

For peace of mind, you may choose to register your youth traveller in our Unaccompanied Minor VIP Service. This service is not available on connecting or codeshare flights. All paperwork, identification requirements, services, fees and handling will apply.

  • Domestic and South flights: free base fare, plus taxes and fees depending on the destination
  • Transatlantic flights: 10% of the regular ticket price plus taxes and fees depending on the destination

Flight Only, until April 30th 2017
  • Domestic and South flights: regular ticket price, plus taxes and fees
  • Transatlantic flights: 15% off the regular price, plus taxes and fees (a maximum of three children per adult may benefit from the child rate)
Flight Only, from May 1st 2017
  • South and domestic flights: regular ticket price, plus taxes and fees
  • Transatlantic flights: 25% off the regular ticket price, plus taxes and fees (a maximum of three children per adult may benefit from the child rate)
  • All destinations: Prices may vary

  • If travelling on adult’s lap, infants without a purchased seat have no baggage allowance
  • One stroller and one (car or booster) seat accepted free of charge
  • Parent/guardian may carry diaper bag in addition to regular carry-on, containing supplies needed for duration of flight
  • Regular baggage allowance
  • One stroller and one (car or booster) seat accepted free of charge
  • Compact, foldable strollers that do not exceed our standard carry-on dimensions (23 x 40 x 51 cm / 9 x 16 x 20 inches) may be taken into the passenger cabin in lieu of a regular carry-on bag

Additional and/or substituted equipment is subject to excess baggage charges where applicable.

  • Maximum infant weight 11 kg (24 lbs)
  • Infant’s size may not exceed the dimensions of the bassinette: 68 x 30 x 15 cm (27 x 12 x 6 in)
  • Safe for non-active infants who are unable to sit upright; your bassinette will remain on request until a crew member has assessed the suitability once on board
  • Limited availability, at bulkhead seats only
Infant Hammock
  • Infant hammocks are permitted for on-board use, except when the seatbelt sign is illuminated
Restraint systems approved for onboard use (car seats)
  • Recommended for safety and comfort of children under 18 kg (40 lbs)
  • For infant travel: an approved restraint system may be used on board only when a seat has been purchased for the infant
  • Car seats must conform to these regulations:
    • Maximum car seat width 40 cm (15.5 in)
    • Forward and rear-facing car seats allowed
    • Canadian-made: Manufactured after Jan. 1, 1981 and displays the following inspection label: "CMVSS 213 or 213.1 Canada"
    • U.S.A.-made: Manufactured after Feb. 26, 1985 and displays these labels: "This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards" or "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft"
    • European-made: Restraint system manufactured to the UN ECE standard (Europe) must bear two labels: an international approval label consisting of a circle surrounding the letter “E” followed by the distinguishing number of the country that has granted approval (reflects UN standard ECE R 44, revision 03 or later), and second label that states it is approved for use in aircraft.
    • Car seats manufactured in other countries may NOT be used on Air Transat flights
    • C.A.R.E.S (child aviation restraint system): The AmSafe C.A.R.E.S device can be used by children between the ages of 1 and 4, weighing between 10-20 kg (22-44 lb) and whose height is 100 cm (40 in) or less.
Booster seats, harnesses and vest-type restraints
  • Not approved for use on board by Transport Canada

  • Our crew will be pleased to warm up baby food brought from home
  • To/from South destinations, the U.S. and Domestic flights within Canada: Your choice from the Bistro menu ($)
  • To/from Europe and Middle East: Complimentary meal from the Euro Bistro menu

  • A kit containing infant-care items
  • Every child will receive surprises on our flights. 

Please ensure that checked equipment is properly wrapped/secured for transport to prevent loss or damage.  

At most airports, passengers can use strollers up to the boarding gate. Upon arrival, strollers are delivered to the baggage arrivals area (except in Orlando, where they are delivered to the gate).
