  • The South of France’s rose-coloured city

  • Food: Cassoulet and more!

Toulouse’s most famous regional dish is cassoulet, a stew made with white beans, various kinds of meat and pork skin. La Cave au Cassoulet serves up a hearty portion that garners consistently rave reviews from both locals and tourists.

For an ultra trendy dining experience, foodies frequent Anges et Démons, equally popular for its exposed-brick minimalist chic and its offbeat offerings, like pink artichokes and back of rabbit.

  • Outings and special events

Located on the banks of a canal-connected river, Toulouse is a city best viewed from its waterways. Off-season visitors enjoy boat tours along the Garonne, while summer guests can pass through the St. Pierre lock onto the Canal du Midi.

The heart and soul of La Ville Rose is its magnificent main square, the Place du Capitole. Join the Toulousains on warm summer evenings for an aperitif with the Capitole, Toulouse’s city hall, as a broad pink backdrop.

  • Visiting Toulouse

An aerospace powerhouse in Europe and the capital of the Midi-Pyrénées, Toulouse is also home to the Cité de l’Espace, the continent’s best space museum. Exhibits include a chunk of moon rock and an exact replica of the MIR Space Station that visitors can climb into. It comes as little surprise that the Moon Runner—a moonwalk simulator that replicates the lightness astronauts feel—is a universal favourite.

The city centre boasts prestigious museums like the Musée Saint-Raymond and the Bemberg Foundation, as well as the Musée des Augustins, whose exhibits span centuries. This fabulous museum of fine art houses collections from Roman times to the 20th century. The best rooms are reserved for the French masters, like Delacroix, Toulouse-Lautrec and Monet.

  • The Midi-Pyrénées

Set in southwest France, between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the Midi-Pyrénées offers incredibly diverse landscapes, a rich natural, cultural and historical heritage, and a never-ending list of must-see attractions including the 25 Great Sites like the city of Albi with its Italian feel, and the pilgrimage sites of Rocamadour, Cahors, Figeac and Conques, not to mention the French favourite Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and the rose-coloured capital of Toulouse.

Discover the legendary Midi Canal, the Pic du Midi, the Pyrénées National Park with its spectacular Cirque de Gavarnie and wildlife refuge of Cauterets, authentic flavourful cuisine, fine museums housing unique collections, imposing cathedrals dating back centuries ago, ancient perched villages, and sun-kissed coastal cities like Leucate, and watch as centuries of history unfold before your eyes while strolling through walled medieval cities like Carcassonne.
