Uncovering Local Gems in Cancun, Mexico

Avatar By Kelly McLaughlin

Follow Kelly McLaughlin, a Canadian expat in the Maya Riviera of Mexico, as she brings you on a virtual tour of her favourite places in Cancun. Kelly discovers local gems and restaurants, takes us through the Cancun markets, including Market 23, the locals market where you find the local butcher and the fish monger and Market 28, which is where you can find art and culture shops. She experiences the thrill of a lifetime on a zip line in the jungle. And finally she immerses herself in Mexican local history at Xcaret National Park. Xcaret has everything that is wonderful about Mexico including culture, nature, history and an archeological site. Get out there and see the magic of all the Yucatan Peninsula has to offer.

Market 23 – Market 23 was the first market built in Cancun. It was the place to get everything you need, including food, entertainment and handcrafted items.

Market 28 – Located in downtown Cancun, Market 28 is a huge market full of traditional handcrafts, souvenirs, clothes and food. It is home to more than 100 stores and shops that will leave any shopaholic satisfied.

Xcaret National Park – Xcaret is an eco-archaeological Park. Here you can explore the Mayan jungle, culture and check out the Fiesta Charra and the Mayan Ball Game. Animal lover? Head to the Jaguar Island and the Butterfly Pavillion. Into adventure? Head to our ocean adventures and take the snorkeling tour, swim in the underground rivers and play with the Dolphins. Staying for the night? Check out the ‘Xcaret Mexico Espectacular,’ which is a celebration of light and colour. Hundreds of artists will show you the rich history of Mexico. Food lover? Discover the traditional flavour of Mexico here with specialty restaurants with dishes unique to the area.

Book a package or flight to Cancun and get your Yucatan peninsula adventure started!
