Style Jaunt is a web series that reveals some of the world’s most exciting places to shop. In this fourth instalment of Style Jaunt, Canadian fashion bloggers Gracie Carroll and Alanna Durkovich visit Glasgow in search of the best finds.
This first episode of the Glasgow series is all about vintage fashion, and it turns out that Glasgow is one of Europe’s go-to places for collectors, costume designers or just shoppers who love hunting for vintage treasures. Watch it here:
In this first episode of Style Jaunt in Glasgow, Gracie and Alanna begin their adventure in the West End district, the ultimate hipster haunt with bustling bars and vintage shops. They follow the cobbled-brick road to Vintage Guru. Once an online venture to supply vintage clothes to film sets and worldwide collectors, this boutique now brims with colourful throwbacks to the ’60s and ’70s, artfully capturing the bohemian spirit of its neighbourhood.
Rowdy Roddy Vintage
Gracie and Alanna then have a wee nosey (U.K.-speak for “browse”) at Rowdy Roddy Vintage, a tiny brick-and-mortar shop populated with retro toys, fun home decor and vintage clothes for stylish tykes – its rock ’n’ roll-themed digs are equal parts cute and cool. The owner began collecting vintage finds when her son Roddy was just a baby, and soon needed a store to absorb the adorable overflow. You never know what you’re going to find in Glasgow’s funky West End district!
Niche Optical Tailor
The bloggers then pop into Niche Optical Tailor for an eyeful of vintage frames and sunglasses. The family-run business hand-selects eclectic pieces from all over Europe that invite intrigue and tell a distinct story. They go beyond mere fashion accessories – they betray hints of your personality and traces of the era from which they originated. Their most popular frames? Oversized ’80s funky glasses!
The Ben Nevis Bar
What’s a trip to Scotland without whisky? So the girls head over to The Ben Nevis Bar, which is reputed for serving the best Scotch in the city! And with a selection of 130 single malt whiskies, it’s easy to find the best Scotch for your taste.
