  • Getting there

Jardines del Rey, the name of Cayo Coco’s airport, means the ‘King’s Gardens’ of the King’. It’s rather appropriate given the lushness of Cayo Coco’s land and the warmth of its waters.

The island itself is connected to the mainland by a causeway that runs through the region's marshlands.

  • Good eats

Most hotels have excellent kitchens, but Cuba (and especially Cayo Coco) is a place people can feel safe leaving the grounds to enjoy the local fare.Lenny’s Bar & Grill is a special spot for Canadians, as there are homages to the provinces all over the walls. It also helps that Lenny’s menu is varied and affordable. It’s the authentic taste of Cuba with a tiny hint of home.

  • Lie on the beach, dive into the sea

Cayo Coco’s main attraction is the beach, and its white sand stretches for miles. Truly a sun worshipper’s paradise.

Bordered by an immense coral reef, Cayo Coco offers diving enthusiasts over 15 different dive sites. Meanwhile, avid anglers can choose a trip to Laguna La Redonda, an excellent spot for catching trout.

Kite surfing is very popular on the island, as the prevailing winds are usually perfect for it. And for people who prefer being in the water versus flying over it, the warm sea is comfortable most of the year for anything from wading to water skiing.
