What to do in Edmonton

Surrounded by breathtaking nature, Edmonton offers a plethora of exciting attractions, both indoors and out in the open. Alberta’s capital is also the second largest city in the province, after Calgary. It is known for the stunning beauty of its nearby natural parks, not to mention its massive mall, which features the world’s largest indoor wave pool and rollercoaster.

Not to be missed

  • Boasting over 800 stores, West Edmonton Mall also offers a host of record-breaking attractions. You’ll find the world’s biggest indoor rollercoaster at the Galaxyland amusement park, the world’s largest indoor lake, and the world’s largest indoor water park, complete with a bungee tower.

  • Pay a visit to our furry, feathered and scaly friends at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, which is home to over 350 animals, including sloths, bearded dragons, and a gentle elephant named Lucy.

  • Experience tropical, dry, and tempered climates all in one day at the Muttart Conservatory. This innovative botanical garden is set inside glass pyramids, one of which is high enough to hold mature trees.

  • Travel in time at Fort Edmonton Park, a living history museum that will take you back to the days when the fur trade flourished and the first settlers came to the area.

  • The area’s iconic national parks are a must for any memorable trip. The best-known and most visited one is Banff National Park. Come admire its mountain peaks, its beautiful glacial lakes and its diverse wildlife. You can hike through the park on foot, by bike or even on horseback! 40 kilometres north of Lake Louise, you’ll also find one of the most magnificent attractions of Banff National Park: Peyto Lake. Climb up to the lookout to admire the lake’s turquoise waters!

  • Continue your adventure at Jasper National Park, which features some of the most scenic routes on Earth and wildlife such as bighorn sheep and deer. The second-largest dark sky reserve in the world, Jasper Park is also a prime spot for stargazing.

  • Located just 35 kilometres east of Edmonton, Elk Island National Park is home to some 600 wild bison. Visitors may also see wild elk (hence the name of the park), lynx and porcupines.

  • Catch a bout of hockey fever and come cheer on the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. Inaugurated on September 8, 2016, this 18,000-seat amphitheatre is a must-see attraction for sports fans and concert-goers.
